Welcome From The Workshop Co-Chairs

Dear Colleagues:

It gives us great pleasure to be a part of the SMS India Research Initiative and welcome you to a special Paper Development Workshop. We are living in a globalized world where countries are connected to one another in many ways. With many Asian countries growing at a rapid pace, the centre of economic gravity is slowing shifting eastwards. In the process, many firms within the emerging economies have become successful globally and many others are also changing their operations to meet the global standards. Some of the experiences and challenges of this new economic growth have to be documented. Therefore, management research needs to be more inclusive of this changing global reality.

Scholars within emerging economies are uniquely positioned to challenge or extend some of the core management literature that arise out of social, political, regulatory and cultural differences existing in these high growth regions. However, in order to do so, research capacity of the young scholars and PhD students in these areas needs to be strengthened to meaningfully address the global academic conversations. It is in this regard that we from the NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) invite you to share your thoughts and projects within the domain of Strategy and Entrepreneurship in India and its neighboring countries. We would also like to take this opportunity create a collaborative platform between Western scholars interested in research on emerging markets, and aspiring scholars in Indian business schools.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Bangalore during 10th to 12th December 2010.
